History

T he land of the ‘Exception’ as some of you might know. Mongolia has a rich and extreme history like its climate. From the humble herders to the rulers of the largest contiguous Empire, the world has ever seen. We Mongols have been nomadic people for many thousands of years and 30% of the population are still living a nomadic lifestyle. To put Mongolian history simply, many prehistoric sites, cave drawings, then the first state was established in the 3rd century BC, had a love-hate relationship with various Chinese and other central asian empires, became a world power between 13-14 century, most converted to Buddhism in the 17th century, conquered by the Qing dynasty (fall of the Last Nomadic Empire, ‘Dzungaria’), declared independence with the fall of Qing in the 1911 (later accepted by the UN in the 1961), Soviet satellite state between 1921-1991, since 1991 and with the democratic revolution Mongolia is now a Democratic, Parliamentary state. Mongolian history is best reflected on the people and their lifestyle rather than in the paper. As mentioned before, Mongols are the exception. *Queue the Mongol montage.
