Day: 1. Arrival, Ulaanbaatar city
Arrival to Ulaanbaatar city, the capital of Mongolia, Transfer to hotel. After refreshing at the hotel. We will start our city tour from the main square Chinggis khan, then visit Gandan Tegchilen monastery, the biggest Buddhist monastery of Mongolia. Then we continue to visit Zaisan Hill, where you can see the whole city from the point and stop by at the Buddha statue next to the Hill.
Day: 2. Danshig Naadam festival
See Opening Ceremony of Danshig Festival at the National Stadium of Ulaanbaatar city. See cultural performance and Tsam ritual dance. See horse race, wrestling and archery competition. There are small stalls set up around the stadium and offer different varieties of souvenirs, food, snacks and drinks and dishes. Late afternoon, visit the Bogd Khan Palace museum.
Day: 3. Khugnu Khan National Park
Drive to Khugnu Khan National park, (290 km from Ulaanbaatar) visit the renovated Erdene Khamba temple and the old Uvgun Erdene monastery ruins. This National park includes sand dunes upfront and rocky mountains in the north. Perfect for hiking or trekking with camels or horses. Overstay at the ger camp.
Day: 4. Kharkhorin / Erdene Zuu monastery
After breakfast at the camp, we will drive to Erdene Zuu Monastery, an old Mongolian Buddhist monastery which was built by Abtai Sain khan in 1585 in the ruins of Khar-Khorin, former capital of the Mongolian Empire. We will see archeological findings, and temples such as Golden stupa, Dalai Lama temple and turtle rock.
Day: 5. Back to Ulaanbaatar city
Drive back to Ulaanbaatar. Check in to the Hotel. See Mongolian traditional folk music and dance concerts, visit souvenirs, and cashmere outlet stores. Farewell dinner.
